Ingredients

  • Avocados

Instructions

  • Prepare baking sheet.
Line a baking sheet with a silicone mat or parchment paper.
  • Wash and dry the avocados.
Rinse the avocados under cool running water. Gently rub the skin to remove any debris or residue. Dry with a clean towel.
  • Cut the avocados in half, lengthwise.
Move your knife top to bottom, slicing straight down along the pit. Pull apart the two halves and remove the pit.
  • Peel and cut into cubes or wedges.
You can also scoop the flesh out of the skin, then cut.
  • Put the avocados in the freezer for 1-2 hours.
Place the avocados on the baking sheet in a single layer. Make sure the avocado pieces are separate from each other. Transfer the baking sheet to the freezer. Freeze for 1 to 2 hours, or until the avocados are frozen.
  • Put frozen avocados into a freezer-safe bag and store in the freezer.
Push out the excess air and press the seal to close. Use frozen avocados in 3-6 months for the best texture.

Notes

  • Pick ripe avocados that are slightly firm but have some give when gently squeezed.
  • For less powerful blenders, cut the avocados into cubes. Wedges are fine for high-powered blenders.
  • If your baking sheet is too big for your freezer, use a freezer-safe plate instead.
  • When putting avocados into a bag, don't overfill it. This will make it hard to close properly and increase the risk of freezer burn.
  • Frozen avocado should be added directly to smoothies. Thawing will make them mushy and grainy.
