Ingredients

  • 1 inch ginger root (peeled and cubed)
  • ¼ cup coconut water
  • apple (cubed)
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper

Instructions

  • Put all the ingredients in a blender.
Load the coconut water, lemon juice, cayenne pepper, ginger, and apple into the blender in that order.
  • Blend until combined.
Blend on low speed for 10 seconds, then increase to high for 30 seconds.
  • Strain the liquid.
Strain the mixture into a measuring cup, pressing down with a spoon to get all the juice out.
  • Pour into a shot glass.
    Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Find fresh ginger root in the produce section of the grocery store. Choose firm pieces that look plump.
  • A 1-inch piece of ginger root is about the size of your thumb.
  • For the best flavor, use fresh lemon juice instead bottled.
  • For the healthiest choice, use a coconut water without added sweeteners or ingredients.
  • If you don't have apple, use a splash of apple juice for sweetness.
  • If you want a less spicy ginger shot, use more apple and less ginger. You can also leave out the cayenne pepper.
  • Ginger shots are best taken fresh. If you need to save it, store in an airtight jar in the refrigerator and drink within 2 days.
